OUR STORY

Nigeria as the most populous Africa nation with over 200 million people have an health sector that is plagued by many challenges that compromise quality and accessibility of healthcare for the citizens. In the year 2017,as a medical doctor striving to be one of the best in medical practice the Chairman board of directors of this foundation was helpless as over 1000 people died from Meningitis within 6 months and a lot more from other preventable disease.

Children between 5 to 14 years were most affected accounting for 6,791 cases out of a total 14,513 cases reported in 24 states.

This made me sad and devastated for days as a public health expert and the single thought on my mind was why lose so many lives dues unpreparedness and lack of prompt response. This fuel my desire to do more to save lives, reduce mortality due to preventable and treatable diseases. I resulted to start immediately I read of a pathetic story of a young man of 35 years who died at a private hospital in Lagos after suffering from severe malaria. The young man later died after complaining of difficulty in breathing and chest pain. The man sister accused that her brother died due to negligence when they could not afford to pay bills.
We can’t continue to lose precious lives like this due to these two factors of poverty and lack of quality Healthcare are the reasons that birthed Abigail-Jonathan Foundation coupled with so many other sad experiences I witnessed while growing up. I am dedicated to help a lot of people as I can especially with access to basic things like affordable and quality Healthcare.
